Mary Cassatt at the Musée d’Orsay: the independent Impressionist
By Rédaction My Sweet Paris · Published 8 November 2026
For the centenary of her death, the Musée d’Orsay devotes a major retrospective to Mary Cassatt, the American pioneer of Impressionism in France. Around 80 works are on show until 31 January 2027. A lovely Sunday idea, a few metro stops from Hôtel Concortel.
Who was Mary Cassatt?
Born in the United States, Mary Cassatt (1844-1926) built her career in France and was one of the few women in the Impressionist group. She stood out for her view of modern life and everyday intimacy, choosing an independent artistic path, hence the exhibition’s title: “Mary Cassatt, l’indépendante”, also billed as “The Choice of Independence”.
