Paris’s first “music hall”
On 12 April 1893, Joseph Oller, already the founder of the Moulin Rouge, opened a venue at 28 boulevard des Capucines called L’Olympia: the first to bear the name music hall. Its first bill featured La Goulue and dancer Loïe Fuller.
Bruno Coquatrix’s golden age
From 1954 to 1979, Bruno Coquatrix ran the hall and brought song back: Gilbert Bécaud, Édith Piaf, Barbara, Brassens, Jacques Brel, Charles Trenet, Léo Ferré… Singing at the Olympia became the crowning moment of a career. Big French and international names still perform there today.
