By Rédaction My Sweet Paris · Published 6 October 2026
Tuesday 6 October 2026 is a national day of action in Paris: a high-school and university student march leaves Place de la République at 2 pm, and six metro stations in the 11th arrondissement are closed from 10 am. Transport disruption is possible. From Hôtel Concortel, the easiest option is to stay on foot: the free Galeries Lafayette rooftop is about ten minutes away (estimate).
What changes on Tuesday 6 October?
According to Sortiraparis, a march of high-school and university students leaves Place de la République at 2 pm. Six stations are closed from 10 am, all in the 11th arrondissement: Charonne, Oberkampf, Richard-Lenoir, Rue des Boulets, Saint-Ambroise and Voltaire (lines 5 and 9). How do you get around from the hotel?
- Check the RATP or Île-de-France Mobilités app just before leaving.
- Avoid the République – Nation area in the early afternoon.
- For an airport or train station, allow plenty of extra time.
- The Saint-Lazare – Madeleine – Opéra area is easy to explore on foot: see our article on the 29 September strike for more tips.
What can you do on foot? Head up to the Galeries Lafayette rooftop
At 40 boulevard Haussmann, the department store opens its 8th-floor rooftop terrace free of charge. The view is spectacular: the back of the nearby Palais Garnier, the Paris rooftops, the Eiffel Tower in the distance and Sacré-Cœur. Before going up, look up at the store's famous dome. The terrace may close in bad weather.
To make an afternoon of it, a visit to the Palais Garnier is right next door. More ideas in Discover Paris and, for dinner, our gourmet addresses.
