Orangerie: the Water Lilies and the “Monet, Painting Time” show
By Rédaction My Sweet Paris · Published 22 October 2026
For the centenary of Claude Monet’s death, the Musée de l’Orangerie, at the end of the Tuileries Garden, is showing “Monet, peindre le temps” (Monet, Painting Time) until 25 January 2027, alongside its famous Water Lilies. The museum is about 15 minutes’ walk from Hôtel Concortel (estimate).
What does “Monet, Painting Time” show?
Open since 30 September 2026, the exhibition brings together nearly forty paintings, mostly lent by the Musée d’Orsay and the Musée Marmottan Monet. It shows how Monet made time, light and the seasons the heart of his painting: early Impressionist works, the Haystacks, Poplars and Rouen Cathedral series, and finally the great Water Lilies cycle.
Why see the Orangerie’s Water Lilies?
- Monet gave his large Water Lilies panels to the French State in a deed signed in 1922.
- They hang in two oval rooms lit by natural daylight, designed for lingering.
- The exhibition links them to the idea of duration that runs through the painter’s whole work.
- The museum also holds the Walter-Guillaume collection, from Renoir to Picasso.
When to go and how to get there?
The museum opens every day except Tuesday, 9 am to 6 pm (ticket desk closes 45 minutes earlier). A full-price ticket is €12.50, reduced €10; entry is free for EU residents under 26 and on the first Sunday of the month, with booking. Book online if you can during the exhibition. From the Concortel, walk to the Madeleine and down rue Royale to Concorde: about 15 minutes on foot (estimate). Concorde metro station (lines 1, 8 and 12) is right by the museum.
On the way, stop around the Madeleine and Saint-Lazare, or carry on to the Petit Palais. More ideas in Discover Paris.
